Sometimes you find little places when you least expect it.

Take for example back at the last Americade Rally. We had been doing a little backroads exploration, finding miles and miles of groomed gravel roads and some superior pavement when our stomachs called for lunch at the same time. Glancing at a map we found we were just a few miles north of Schroon Lake, so that seemed our best bet.

We parked on Main Street and walked through the little burg looking for chow; and boy did we find some!

Part gift shop, part French Bistro we walked in and were shown a comfortable seat and chatted it up with the owner Myriam.

We first thought she was from Quebec, but soon found that she was indeed from France and circumstances and love had brought her to this sleepy Adirondack town a few years back. She had open the Morningstar Bistro to fill a need in the town for food with a different perspective; what they call Adirondack-With-A-French-Flair eatery.

Along with her friend Tina, Myriam's open kitchen allows you to see just what is happening as far as food goes; and what would that be, you ask?

Well, looking at the menu it seemed we had a wide choice of great sandwiches. The Edgewater - a combo of grilled salmon with a special cucumber wasabi dressing. Or, maybe The Watch Rock; a pastrami melt on rye, served with terra chips and pickles. There was the Brown Swan, which consisted of smoked turkey, swiss cheese, roasted red peppers served with a red onion and pesto dressing - yum!

All in all they had nine different combinations, plus the option to simply make your own one up.

On the French side of things there were a number of Crepes - La vie est belle - both in savory style and sweet - the difference being meat and cheese and fresh fruits.

I started with a marvelous Wild Crème of Hungarian Mushroom soup that was out of this world and then had the Watch Rock sandwich; which was awesome, and Shira created her own savory crepe of ham, brie and guacamole, which she devoured.

There is also a small breakfast menu if you feel it's too early for lunch when you get there.

In addition to the restaurant The Morningstar has a number of kick knacks and some of the funniest greeting cards we have ever seen for sale. Shira stocked up on those as she always does.

Since there is a good chance you and your group might be looking for something new at the next Americade we'll give you our route up to the Morningstar - be prepared for some gravel, or if that gives you the willies, you can route around it to Schroon Lake easily. We'll also toss in a great twisty bonus ride back to the village!
