Miss Bellows Falls Diner

Every so often it is good to bring things back to its roots. So it is with this month's stop on the Great American Diner Run.

We were riding around Vermont this spring and came across a true classic, something that you do not see as often as you should and something that is quickly vanishing from the landscape of America.

The Miss Bellows Falls Diner is the real deal! Built back in the 1920s she is one of the last great diner cars and she is in wonderful condition at 900 Rockingham Street in Bellows Falls, Vermont - where she has been serving hungry customers since 1942. The Miss Bellows Falls Diner is American Car #771 and she was built by the Worcester Lunch Car Company. With her railroad-style windows and tiny booths the Miss Bellows is so rich in atmosphere you will swear you have ridden back in time.

We sat down on a warm May day and had the breakfast special - eggs over easy with sausage, hash browns and raisin bread toast - delish!

They also do the regular pancakes, sausage, gravy and biscuits, omelets and breakfast wraps.

But, the Miss Bellows Falls is famous for their Big Mouth Burgers. We didn't actually have one but we got the feeling that the Big Mouth is one serious burger.

The staff that day were about as friendly as you can get and we felt like locals from the moment we stepped inside, and when we left they made us promise to be safe on those motorcycles.

The diner also has a neat little website so you can get a feel for the place but when in Vermont you owe it to yourselves to take a ride to Bellows Falls and grab a bite at the Miss Bellows Falls Diner - it is a true American classic.
